I thought about what
I do to find some inspiration:
- Make a long walk: There are so many big and small things to see. The shapes, lines or arrangements can inpire you to new art.
- Talk with friends: Suddenly a topic will create a pictures in your mind which you like to draw.
- Draw abstract art: Choose paint of a random color, and draw random lines and shapes on a canvas or paper. Or simple using a pencil to draw shapes. Sometimes, suddenly ideas appear.
But instead of waiting for a new idea, why not try something new. Things you could try in random order:
- Work with different paper: Go to a stationer's and check different papers. It's very inspiring.
- Work with photos: Go out into nature, search for patterns and take photos of them. Combine the photos into new art. See the great artwork from Oliver.
- Work with cardboard: You have for sure some unused boxes. I like to create objects from cardboard by cutting, folding and combine them. Often I paint the whole object in suitable colors.
- Work with wood: Not as easy as for the previous materials - but probably you have access to some working place where you can do this. Especially in combination with paint. See the great wooden objects from Mefitica.
- Work with ink: Black ink using a quill on paper can be real inspiring. There is some randomness and fuzzyness which brings even simple abstract art to life.
- Create black and white art by simplify a motive: Think about a random object, then try to draw it black and white with the maximum effect. See this picture [link] or this [link] (mature content)
- Try real paint: Drawing abstract art on real canvas or on thick paper with real acrylic color is relaxing and fun. You don't need much and you get everything you need in you local at shop. [link]
- Create pencil drawings: The best way to improve your skills. Just grab any object around you, place it on a even surface, grab a paper and pencil and try to draw it with all shadings. See this picture [link] or this one [link]
Another way is to make a pause with creative output, and spend the time learning to create some input. There is so much to learn:
- Learn new materials and drawing techniques. There are many good books.
- Learn how to use software and the tools in the best way. Use for example lynda.com
- Learn more about photography.
- Learn more about past and current artists. Go read a book or visit some art museum.
Usually by learning something new, this will open a whole new room of possibilities, and this can be very inspiring.
